FOR MUSICIANS
if you are a local artist and are interested in Arlington Independent Media airing your music, send your information and links to your music to wera@arlingtonmedia.org
FOR PRODUCERS
WERA accepts new programs in January and June. Whether you’re a seasoned radio veteran or a curious community member, we love hearing your ideas and will do everything necessary to get you on the air. Here’s what you need to get started:
APPLY FOR A PROGRAM
Fill out a programming application, available here. You’ll want to take some time to devise a concrete, specific, and practical proposal. Arlington Independent Media has a list of “value statements” for WERA to determine whether or not a program fits our mission:
- Service
- Enrichment
- Localism
- Diversity
- Community
- Innovation
Applications that describe how your program contains these values will set you apart and increase your chances of being approved for airtime. If you need help solidifying your proposal, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us at wera-programming@arlingtonmedia.org, and we’ll try and help you round out your idea.
You can submit a completed application the following ways:
- By mail or in-person to:
Arlington Independent Media
Attn: WERA
2701-C Wilson Blvd
Arlington, VA 22201 - Scan and e-mail your application to wera-programming@arlingtonmedia.org.
- The application is fillable. You can also fill out the PDF online using a tool like PDF Buddy, and e-mail it to wera-programming@arlingtonmedia.org.
If you’re planning to e-mail your application, please use “WERA Application” as your subject line.
Once we process your application, we’ll send you a confirmation e-mail indicating that your application is under review. It normally takes 2 to 3 weeks to review an application. A member of our staff may contact you via phone or e-mail requesting more information about your program proposal.
In the event we did not approve your application, don’t be discouraged! We will provide you with constructive criticism, and you are encouraged to work on your proposal and submit again.
Upon approval, you’ll meet with an Arlington Independent Media staff member to sign you up for the appropriate training (if you’re not already registered), finalize your time slot, and sign a programming contract.
MEMBERSHIP AND TRAINING
Currently, programmers must become members of Arlington Independent Media and enroll On-Air Radio Broadcast. Additionally, AIM offers a wide range of production courses if you are planning to produce a pre-recorded program on WERA.
